This is the very promising debut demo by The Graceful Slicks. Their sound could easily be mistaken for coming from Austin as opposed to the much less rock and roll south-east England. I believe the best to describe this five pieces genre is trippy lo-fi psychedelic shoegaze (I hope that makes more sense to you than it does me).‘Black and Blue’ is a great opening track and draws you in like a free beer sign outside a pub. The strummed guitars throughout the three tracks seem effortlessly fluid and enable you to feel fully immersed in the tracks. ‘Shows Over’ is given slightly more stability from the casual drums and meandering baseline. The guitar solo at the end is rather self-indulgent but doesn’t overshadow the whole of the song.
‘Theory of the Times’s guitars are an aural treat and are almost as soothing as Morgan Freeman’s voice. As in the other songs, the vocals are heavily shrouded in reverb. The lyrics aren’t great but I don’t mind that, even if it was just the guitars I would still be happy. This band evokes images of waking up at the crack of noon during summer and lazing around for the rest of the day. I look forward to hearing more stuff from these guys and I predict bigger and better things to come.
